GRK Civils is proud to have contributed to the delivery of England’s first rebuilt RAAC school, with pupils and staff now officially welcomed into the new St Leonard’s Catholic School in Durham.

Working alongside BAM UK & Ireland, our team delivered a comprehensive groundworks and external works package to help transform the site into a modern, purpose-built learning environment.

Our scope of works included enabling works for service diversions and drainage connections, pile cap foundations with heave protection, internal and external drainage and service installations, in-situ reinforced ground beams, structural concrete works, surfacing, paving, landscaping and the installation of street furniture.

Delivered within a demanding programme, the project required close collaboration across the supply chain and careful coordination throughout every stage of construction. Thanks to the commitment of everyone involved, the works were completed safely, on time and to the high standards expected on a project of this significance.

Following the discovery of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) in the original school buildings, St Leonard’s became one of a number of schools requiring major redevelopment. The completion of the new school marks a significant milestone, with more than 1,300 pupils now benefiting from a modern, permanent learning environment designed for the future.

As a business, we’re proud to have played our part in a project that will have a lasting impact on the local community. Seeing pupils return to a safe, high-quality school is what projects like this are all about.

Congratulations to BAM UK & Ireland, the wider project team and everyone who contributed to making this landmark development a reality. We wish St Leonard’s Catholic School every success for the future.
